Working together to fight hunger and food insecurity of homeless, low-income, and needy children.  "A recent USDA report indicated that in 2009, an estimated 49.1 million people, including 16.7 million children, live in households that experience hunger and malnutrition throughout the year" (Hunger and Food Insecurity in the United States, 2009).
After school academic tutoring and life coaching / mentoring The focus of ODBCOS after school learning center (s) is to provide at-risk, homeless, low income, and needy children / students with opportunities for standards based academic enrichment, personal enrichment, and other activities designed to complement and enhance the students' regular academic program.
Assisting in aligning high school standards with the demands of postsecondary education. “To close the expectations gap and better prepare students for college, states must first ensure that high school standards reflect the real-world skills and knowledge students need to be successful after they graduate” (Achieve Website, 2009).
Providing basic needs to homeless, low-income, and needy persons / children.   Living on the streets or otherwise can be challenging especially when the homeless and needy are dealing with the severe climate conditions of the Phoenix metropolitan area. ODBCOS recognizes the need of necessary tangibles to survive in such an environment.

A welcome message from the President and CEO of Our Daily Bread Community Outreach Services

I want to thank you for taking time to stop by and learn more about Our Daily Bread Community Outreach Services (ODBCOS). I am honored and happy to meet you and to share my vision with you.

ODBCOS was founded primarily on the basis of a need to provide access to food, nutritious after school snacks and meals, academic support, mentoring, and postsecondary education awareness and preperation, for at-risk children; particularly, homeless, low-income, and needy children. I discovered this need while volunteering at a homeless shelter when the shelter director indicated to me that there were not enough organizations in the City of Phoenix addressing the hunger and academic support negligence of such children. This in itself became the overall mission of ODBCOS.

City of Phoenix, ArizonaODBCOS is committed to its mission and is currently forming partnerships and alliances with Feeding America, U.S Department of Agriculture, Arizona Department of Education, and facility site sponsors. These partnerships and alliances will help ODBCOS to establish multiple sites in some of the most poverty stricken school districts of the Phoenix metropolitan area and offer access to food banks for homeless and needy persons; and after school learning centers for at-risk children. The centers will engage in the following food and nutrition programs: The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), The Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

In addition to this, ODBCOS is currently forming professional networks and building valuable alliances with local and national food distributors, public and private universities, corporate sponsors, grant giving foundations, and private donors to help support and sustain the livelihood of the organization; and most importantly, to fulfill the ODBCOS organizational mission.

Alongside with the organizational mission, I have a long term vision of building two permanently based learning center facilities of my own within the Phoenix metropolitan area. One site in the Inner City of Phoenix and the second site on the West Side of Phoenix. These facilities will be strategically and geographically anchored within the most neglected and poverty stricken school districts of Phoenix. ODBCOS will own and operate these permanently based learning center facilities. The facilities will be equipped with food banks, administrative offices, classrooms, and licensed kitchens to effectively address the hunger of homless and needy persons; and the hunger and educational needs of at-risk children within our community now and for the future.

With all being said, I thank you for stopping by to learn more about Our Daily Bread Community Outreach Services. I hope you enjoy your visit and that I have encouraged you to become involved with ODBCOS. For future and upcoming events, please feel free to track our activities through the events calendar posted on this site. Should you become empowered and encouraged to volunteer for one of our events, please feel free to contact me directly via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. In closing, please help to make a difference and join me in the fight against hunger for needy persons and against hunger and lack of academic support for at-risk children. You can do so through online secure donations. Please see "donate now" on this site for further details. I would really appreciate your donation as your partnership and support will go a long way.

By working together, we can make a positive impact in the lives of those that need our help.

Sincerely,

Anthony M. Rivera
